Premium vs. Regular Gasoline

When it’s time for many Las Vegas drivers to stop for a fill-up, there are always three options, but more than likely it’s become second nature to simply fill up the vehicle with regular gasoline. But did you know that some vehicles are specifically designed to run on premium gas over regular gas?

Knowing the right kind of gasoline your vehicle requires will keep it running at its best. That’s why we’re here to help you find out which you should choose the next time your tank is running low.

Difference Between Premium and Regular Gas

The octane level is the biggest differentiator when it comes to choosing premium or regular gas. Since premium gas has a higher octane level over regular, this means that there is a larger likelihood of engine combustion, also known as “pre-ignition” or “engine knock.” Many high-performance vehicles that utilize premium gas tend to have an octane level of 91, while those that use regular or unleaded only have an octane level of 87. If you notice that there are engine knocks occurring in your vehicle on a regular basis this must be addressed as soon as possible.

Gas Pump Safety

Should I choose Premium Gasoline vs. Regular?

Just because premium gas is better for the engine, does not necessarily mean that North Las Vegas will reap the benefits of using in their vehicle. That’s why it’s always a good idea to check with your owner’s manual to see what the manufacturer recommends. Vehicles that are built for a strong performance and used regularly for tough jobs usually require a more advanced formula of gas to improve specs like horsepower and torque, but can not make much of a difference when used in an everyday sedan or SUV. If you’re manual says it’s fine to continue to use regular gas than you’re better off saving money at the pump!
