Can You Trade In a Financed Car?

When it’s time to find your next new, used, or certified pre-owned vehicle, did you know that you can trade in your financed vehicle?

If you are one of the many Las Vegas customers considering this, you should be aware that the loan on your vehicle does not go away because you’ve traded it in and you will still have to pay off the balance. And, if you’re still making payments on a lease, be sure to double check with our finance center before you get the process started. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need more information on a lease payment, interest rates, and even the price of the car you’re trying to trade in.

How Does Trading In a Financed Car Work?

North Las Vegas drivers may be wondering: “How does trading in a financed car work?” Well, if the remaining amount of the loan you have yet to pay is less than the worth of the vehicle, the dealer buying your vehicle can then give you enough to pay the rest of the loan off. So say you owe $7,000 on your car, and the dealer offers you $8,000 for it. This loan can then be paid off and the car transferred to the dealership buying the car and the remaining $1,000 will be taken off the price of the new vehicle you purchase.

What Does “Rolling Over” A Loan Mean?

Drivers interested in trading in a financed car may also come across a rolling over option. This is when a dealership says they will pay off your old loan no matter how much you owe. While this may seem like a great deal, customers should be aware that the price gets added to your new loan on the next car you buy, meaning you pay the dealership back for paying your loan as you pay your current loan on your new vehicle.
