Findlay Acura execs support Toys for Tots golf tournament

 

A pair of Findlay Acura executives participated in the eighth annual U.S. Marine Corp Golf Classic benefiting Toys for Tots at Nellis Air Force Base's Sierra Vista Golf Course recently.

            General Manager James Cobbs and Internet Coordinator Jim Donohue joined in the day's activities to help produce toys for the holidays for hundreds of underprivileged youth. Under excellent weather conditions, the event drew a sold out field of 168 players.

            As an added benefit, entrants in the tournament enjoyed seeing an air show as members of the military prepared for Aviation Nation. The skies were filled all day long with various aircraft practicing maneuvers that also included sky divers.

            In addition, 57^th Wing Commander Col. Belote gave all of the golfers a rousing sendoff to start the event.

            Findlay Acura displayed a 2010 TSX on the par-3 fifth hole. The vehicle was offered as a giveaway had anyone in the tournament hit a hole-in-one.

            "We had a great time," said Cobbs, whose dealership suddenly spiraled upward in sales during the past month. "Playing in tournaments like this is beneficial for all involved. We are able to be out in the community helping Toys for Tots and our current or potential customers get the chance to see and hear about the Acura brand.

            "The day is a win-win for all everyone and we're proud to be involved."

            Donohue, who has been with Findlay Automotive Group stores for the past eight years, said Findlay Acura keys on giving back to the community through events like the annual Toys for Tots benefit.

            "There are so many needy organizations in Southern Nevada especially during these tough economic times," said Donohue, a native New London, Conn. "The Marines and their support staff work hard to make certain that underprivileged youth has a happy holiday every year.

            "We'll be there whenever they need our support."

            Tom McGrath, the chairman of golf tournaments in Las Vegas and Laughlin presented each year by Las Vegas Toys for Tots, said the tournament at Nellis was a great success.  He cited the dedicated efforts of everyone involved to present the Toys for Tots events.

            "The Marines are directly involved with the gift distribution," explained McGrath. "The Toys for Tots committee meets 12 months out of the year to prepare for the next year. Every child deserves a little Christmas. No child should be left behind at Christmas."

            McGrath thanked Findlay Acura for participating in the event.

            "The Findlay Automotive Group and its family have been involved with Toys For Tots since Day One," explained McGrath. "We can always count on the Findlay people to help us."

            Findlay Acura is involved in various civic activities throughout the year including a health fair at the South Point along with Safe Nest for victims of domestic violence.

            The dedication by those involved with Toys for Tots is evidenced by the fact that the group distributes toys to 89 qualified non-profit charities serving children. Started in 1947 by Marine Maj. Bill Hendricks, the idea has mushroomed from its start in Los Angeles into a national organization.

            The next Toys For Tots golf tournament is scheduled Dec. 4 at Mojave Resort Golf Course at the Avi Resort and Casino in Laughlin. Further information can be found at www.toysfortotsvegas.org.
